How it works

BrainyBrego SOS tags contain a tiny NFC chip that doesn’t need charging. It activates only when it’s near an NFC reader—like the one in most modern smartphones.

Just like tapping your card to check in on public transport, scanning the tag pulls up your emergency profile instantly.

Most people attach the tag to their keys or tuck it into their wallet—places first responders are most likely to check in an emergency.

Want to see it in action? Watch the videos below for a quick demo on iPhone and Android.

How to activate the tag

Each SOS tag comes pre-programmed with a unique profile ID.

To activate it, just scan the tag using your smartphone (see the “How it works” section if you’re unsure how).

You’ll be guided to a secure setup page where you can enter your pet’s details, add emergency contacts, and create your login credentials.

Once activated, only you can edit this information—no one else.

And just like that, you’ve taken a huge step to protect your pet if something ever happens to you.
Attach the tag to your keys or slip it into your wallet—places first responders are trained to check. If you’re in an accident, your tag speaks for you. It tells them your dog is waiting at home—and exactly who to call.

Q&A and support

Do I need an app to use the tag?
Nope! Just tap the tag with any modern smartphone. There's nothing to download and no app to install — it just works.
How will someone know to scan the tag?
Each tag has a globally recognized NFC symbol on the back. Most people know what it means, and if not, a quick Google search will point them in the right direction.
What happens when someone scans the tag?
It opens your pet’s emergency profile — showing vital info like who to contact and what the pet needs. It’s fast, secure, and made for urgent moments.
Does it need charging?
Nope! The tag has no battery. It’s powered by the phone that scans it, just like a contactless bank card.
Where should I keep the tag?
Most people attach it to their keys or put it in their wallet — places first responders are most likely to check in an emergency.
Can I update my details later?
Yes. After activation, you can log in at any time to update your pet’s info, change emergency contacts, or add notes.
Is it waterproof?
Yes! Our CEO Brego (he's a dog 🐶) tested it himself — the tag can handle rain, spills, and everyday splashes. You can watch the test video below!
What if I lose my keys with the SOS tag?
No need to stress — your info is safe. You can log into your BrainyBrego account anytime to deactivate the lost tag with one click.

Or just email us at hello@brainybrego.com with the email you used to register the tag, and we’ll take care of it for you.

If you get a new tag, we’ll help you transfer your pet’s info over so you’re back up and running in no time.
Does it work without mobile signal?
The tag itself always works. But the phone scanning it does need internet access (Wi-Fi or data) to view your emergency profile.
Can I use one tag for multiple pets?
Each tag links to one profile. For multiple pets, we recommend one tag per pet so their info is always clear and accurate for first responders.
How long does the tag last?
There’s no battery or moving parts, so it’s built to last for years with regular use.
My phone won’t scan the tag — what should I do?
Make sure NFC is turned on in your phone settings. On some devices, it's off by default (especially if you haven’t used contactless features before).
